Opportunities at AJ Racing aren't limited to driving!

Ami is not only passionate about increasing the number of female drivers in motorsport, but is also dedicated to inspiring more girls to pursue careers in engineering and STEM fields. With women making up just 15.7% of the UK’s engineering workforce, the team offers hands-on work experience for aspiring female mechanics and engineers. Together with team mechanic Phoebe, Ami will teach young women how to work on karts, serving as role models and paving the way for future talent in the field. Careers in motorsport extend beyond drivers, mechanics and engineers; you can find out more below and discover how you could gain experience for your dream occupation at AJ Racing.

Careers in Motorsport

Race Mechanics & Technicians

Being a mechanic is an excellent career path for those who enjoy hands-on work and take pride in fixing or making something work better. In motorsports, mechanics play a vital role in ensuring that karts, cars, and bikes run reliably and at peak performance. While multiple mechanics are required to run a car, just one mechanic suffices for a kart. As mentioned above, AJ Racing offers the opportunity for girls to volunteer as a mechanic. You will be taught how to work on karts and, if you're good enough, you could be responsible for looking after a kart and get paid by your driver!

Journalism & Media

Journalism involves collecting, publishing or broadcasting media to educate, inform and entertain audiences. For example, at a Formula 1 event, the race is televised and commentated to inform viewers how each team and driver are doing while they are entertained by watching the racing. Photographers, videograpers and commentators are all forms of journalists who produce different kinds of media. If you’re an aspiring motorsport journalist, get in touch with AJ Racing!

Engineering

Engineers are responsible for inventing, designing, and maintaining systems by solving problems while considering factors such as cost, safety, and regulations. In karting, while design work is limited due to homologation of most parts, there is significant scope for race engineering. This involves using data to make informed setup decisions and give driver coaching. At AJ Racing, we utilise AIM Technology's Mychron 5 logger for data analysis, along with onboard footage captured by GoPro cameras, to optimise kart performance and enhance race strategy.

Marketing

Marketing involves promoting and selling products or services, and it has always played a key role in motorsport due to the sport's high visibility. Beyond traditional advertising through TV, websites, liveries, and signage, social media has become a powerful tool for brand promotion. If you are considering a career in motorsport marketing, AJ Racing offers the opportunity to gain experience in promoting brands through social media.
